2014 runDisney Walt Disney World Kid Races

1010634 I love the runDisney Kids Races.  I think if you are taking your family to a runDisney event and your kids like to run, then you really must experience the Kids Races.  They have events from the Diaper Dash, 100, 200, and 400 meters and then even a 1-miler for the older kids.

1010622The kids each receive a t-shirt, a personalized bib and you can also add Kids Race Mickey Ears to your registration.  After completion of the race, they will receive a Kids Races medallion!

I like that my son asked to participate in the Walt Disney World Kids Races after having a great experience at the 2013 Disneyland Half Marathon Kids Races.  I registered him and our friend’s daughter for the Kids Races on Thursday at 11am following the Family Fun Run 5K at 6:15am!  What was I thinking!!!

1010628After the 5K we went back to Disney’s Saratoga Springs Treehouse Villas to eat breakfast and change, but I didn’t take into account how much transportation time was needed to get us back to Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Track & Field Complex and we were going to be having to hoof it to get to our races on time!!!  We got on the bus and were slowly making our way to the complex when I looked down and noticed that my son had fallen asleep on the seat next to me!!!!  UGH!!!!

1010633I quickly woke him up and made our way as quick as me could to the field!  Nicole and Natalie were running the 200 and they were beginning the wave as we arrived!!!

I would have to say that the organization at the Walt Disney World Marathon Kids Races was much better than at Disneyland.  However, there is still very little organization at the runDisney Kids Races.  It is up to the parent to figure it out and ask the volunteers for assistance.  The volunteers that I asked were EXCEPTIONAL and pointed me in the correct direction and we had a great experience.  We learned the Kids Races bibs all look the same except for the lettering color.  The lettering color corresponds to the color of the race banners (100, 200, 400).  Natalie was running the 200 and her lettering was green.  Ryan was running the 400 and his lettering was blue.  Banners were set up along the track and you were to make your way to your assigned event banner and wait until Carissa called for your event.

1010642Ryan was in the 400 and I dropped him off and I ran to the finish line so I could watch him cross!  Soon both kids were done with their events and smiles were on their faces because they had successfully run back to back races – both the Walt Disney World Family Fun Run 5K and Kids Races!

runDisney Walt Disney World Kids Races Tips:

  1. When using the bus transportation allow extra time!!!!  We didn’t leave early enough and just barely made the race time.  No need for this added stress to the parents and runners!
  2. Remember to tear off the Kids Claim Ticket!  Each bib will have a claim ticket on it.  Please remember to tear it off prior to dropping off your child.  One parent can claim a child in the child claim area.
  3. Ask a volunteer!  There is really no telling you were to go and where to stand so ask a volunteer and they will be more than happy to help!
  4. Go sit on the bleachers and enjoy the show!  Bleachers are set up at the finish line and Mickey is there waving the runners into the finish!  Grab your video camera and enjoy the show!
