Race Report: 2015 runDisney Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge, Day 2 – WDW 10K
Early registration for Disney Vacation Club Members and Annual Passholders for the 2016 Walt Disney World Marathon opens Tuesday, April 14, 2015, Noon EST. General registration opens Tuesday, April 28, 2015, Noon EST.
The 2nd race of the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon weekend and Dopey Challenge was the 2nd annual WDW 10K. The WDW 5K and WDW 10K share a couple of miles of the same course, so the WDW 10K also experienced some minor changes this year. The start zone began further out in Explore Lot at Epcot. And course ventured onto paths in front of Journey to Imagination, The Land Pavilion and The Living Seas with Nemo and Friends. The start was at 5:30am, but there was once again a 5-minute wait between corral starts.
The weather was warmer than it had been the day prior. Running with us were #PhotoBombBecca and Pammy. Perfectly Goofy Gail had spent countless hours sewing this morning’s costumes – Jose, Fritz, Michael, and Pierre from Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Our birds had perches and we even had “In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room” playing on a loop while we ran. The costumes were gorgeous and very comfortable running in on the chilly morning.
It was not easy to run with perches so our speed was slow. Again, photo stops were minimal, due to our speed and the already long lines. We still had a great time making our own character stops with spectators and our social media friends. Here are the characters we saw on course:
- Ana and Elsa were again out on the overpass prior to Mile 1
- The White Rabbit was at the turn toward Mile 2
- Stitch was before Mile 2
- Mushu, China
- Genie, Morocco
- Football Mickey Mouse was on the Boardwalk outside ESPN Club
- Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum outside the International Gateway
- Chip and Dale , Future Land
- Mike and Sulley puppets before Mile 6
With the completion of the WDW 10K we were only 39.3 miles away from our 2nd Dopey Challenge. I also collected my 60th runDisney medal at the finish of the WDW 10K. Too see a complete account of race click the video at the top of the post.
