Race Report: 2015 runDisney Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge, Day 4 – WDW Marathon

Early registration for Disney Vacation Club Members and Annual Passholders for the 2016 Walt Disney World Marathon opens Tuesday, April 14, 2015, Noon EST. General registration opens Tuesday, April 28, 2015, Noon EST.

Hey, did I tell you I’m with #PerfectlyGoofyGail and she’s kind of a big deal?  If you don’t know what a runDisney “Perfect” is, let me explain.  A “Perfect” is a participant who has completed every single race of a runDisney Half Marathon or longer.  runDisney begins to acknowledge a “Perfect” usually at a 5th anniversary of a race.

Perfectly Goofy Gail

Perfectly Goofy Gail would be earning her 10th Goofy Challenge medal at the completion of the 2015 WDW Marathon and we were ready to celebrate all 26 POINT 2 magical miles.

No costumes for marathons…

The 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon would be Gail’s 10th WDW Marathon and my 7th.  Since this was our 4th race day, we took our time getting to the corrals and fueling up on steak and bananas.  The weather forecast called for warmer temperatures than it had been for the other races, but perfect for running, with a slight chance of rain.

Our race plan was to – have fun and savor the experience.  We had prepared Gail’s friends and family to expect us to finish around 5 to 6 hours.

Well, we made it into the Magic Kingdom and were feeling good at Mile 6…

And we were stopping at #AllTheCharacterStops because why not?!!  I mean, why not celebrate 10-years of running….

All of Gail’s friends came out to support and cheer us on – including @PhotoBombBecca – who could have easily slept in, graciously came out to collect our sweaty extra layers.

The character lines were long.  But we didn’t give a hoot.  People ran past us – all we wanted to do was enjoy, enjoy, enjoy….until it started raining….and then we decided it was time to pick up the pace.  But we continued to stop at every character stop,  went potty at least 3 times, took #GoatSelfies and even rode Expedition Everest.

Crossing the line....

Crossing the line….

Whatever Perfectly Goofy Gail wanted to do, we did it.  It was her race.  And we did it all.  Best part – we even set a Dopey PR of 15 minutes over our 2014 Dopey Challenge Marathon time.
