Kicking Off the Weekend – runDisney’s Cinderella Royal Family 5K
runDisney’s Cinderella Royal Family 5k kicks off the Princess races on Friday, February 21st at 6:15am in Epcot!
A runDisney 5K is what I like to call – “the gateway drug” to the runDisney races. Once you experience a runDisney race, you just can’t stop. The accomplishment makes you want to go back for another race, a longer race, and then another and another and another!
runDisney begins their race weekends with a Family Fun 5K. Each weekend has a different theme and runDisney’s Princess Half Marathon weekend’s theme is the Cinderella Royal Family 5K. It is open to all, including men, women, and children! The 5K’s are not timed events and are intended to promote family, fun and are not-to-be missed kick-offs to the main races!
The Cinderella Royal Family 5K or 3.1 miles begins and ends in Epcot’s Explore parking lot. The course loops around World Showcase, winds its’ way into Future World and ends back in Epcot’s Explore parking lot. The race start time is 6:15am which means you can sleep in and get up at 5am, get on the race bus, run your race and be back in your hotel room to shower before the parks open! And if you hurry, there are still registrations available – the race is only 90% sold.
Here’s my experience from the 2013 Royal Family Fun Run 5K:
Love the video Kim! The 5K’s are always so much fun! I’m really looking forward to this race on Friday!

You are awesome. End of story. I love your costumes.
This was my first runDisney race and holds a special place in my heart. I signed up for it last minute last year and I am so happy I did.

I’ve never done one of the 5ks, but my boyfriend considered it this year. I keep trying to get him to sign up just for one runDisney race, because I know he’d be hooked!

I was tempted to sign up for the 5K this year, but I’ll have to content myself with the Glass Slipper Challenge and the sweet, sweet extra sleep on Friday.

Haha, love it — I can totally see how participating in a runDisney 5K will make you want to move up to the longer distances! I ran the Jingle Jungle 5K with my sister (her first 5K!) and it was SO much fun!

Y’all are so cute! Maybe if I wasn’t doing the GSC, but I think I want to focus on Parks – if the family ever comes with me to a race, I think we will give the 5k a try!

So are they not very hard on the 16min/mi pace during the 5k?

The 16 min/mile pace begins once the very last person is over the start line.

Can you believe I’ve never managed to do a Disney 5K? I went straight to the Halfs, now 10k’s and so maybe I’ll work my way to the 5k someday! It’s the multiple days of waking up early that keep deterring me. I think you may have convinced me to give one a try this year!
